Charges of voter fraud were rampant in Afghanistan’s most recent presidential election. Today, findings were leaked from a UN report claiming that current President Karzai had only received 48 percent of the vote, less than the 50% + 1 required under Afghanistan’s constitution. Should the UN findings stand, the result would be a runoff election between Karzai and his challenger, Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah.
In the wake of the findings, President Karzai held a press conference with former US President George W. Bush. When asked about the report, Karzai said:
